Update #5 - Keeping Blog Alive

Hi, it's been how long since my external hard disk died on me? :( Well, actually I've taken loads of pictures to update blog but then I don't have space to store it. Sigh. It's the last day of February already.

Oh my goodness, time flies isn't it? :(

Well, I don't know what to update without pictures coz words are sooo boring sometimes. So, I figure I'd just share this video I'm replaying over and over again. :D

Long live Sam Tsui, and Kurt :)

High School (Part 2)

Based on my last blog post (link) about high school, let me further elaborate from the points I have written.

4) School has become ridiculous with the many rules imposed on the students. Spot checks has very much evolved throughout the years. Let me elaborate further on this point. I'll share with you the many examples of spot checks that a student has to go through in high school nowadays, I bet those of you who have graduated from high school many years ago wouldn't know this.

I had given nine examples of ridiculous spot checks that the school conducts upon the student. And my question to the school's authority is, what is the rational or even, the reason behind all these spot checks? Please, do not try to make a fool out of yourselves (as the school's authority) to tell the students when questioned, that it is for safety precautions/discipline purposes. Please, elaborate further on the issue of discipline purposes. Because

1) How does the thickness of your spectacles affect your discipline?
2) How does the size of your watch affect your discipline?
3) How does the colour of your watch affect your discipline?
4) How does the number of lines on your shoes and the colour of the lines affect your discipline?
5) How does the stockings you are wearing affect your discipline? Cause students are not allowed to wear that are too high above the ankle or below the ankle.
6) How does the design of your personal belongings affect your discipline?

I demand for an answer.

And I have also mentioned that the school want to suck out the maximum amount of money from students (and parents, since the parents are the one that gave them the money) to what they say - improve - the condition of the school. But the school spent money unnecessarily like "building a mini golf course". Whereas there are cracks everywhere around the school, but nothing is being done. We're talking about accountability here. School have taken money from the funds that is raised by students and teachers yet only a few of them have a say in all these matter (of handling finances). The school funds are also being allocated to the top student who did well in their exams. What about average and below average students who also contributed the school funds? By all means, it is a good to reward and encourage students who did well in their exams. However, I'm all against it for the school to take out the money from the school fund which is contributed by ALL students to reward some students only. It is UNFAIR and UNJUST. If the school wants to give out these incentives, I suggest them to find sponsors otherwise do not take out so much money from the school fund to reward them.

Another point I want to make is : What gives the school permission to spot check (or rather scrutinize) girls whether they are wearing the "correct" bras or not? Are they trying to stereotype girls that wear other bras than the ones that they allowed as being cheap? (Because they accuse that girls will attract boys when wearing bras with other colours or other kind of bras like tied ones) Is it even humane for them to penalize someone who dress decently yet just because they are wearing a bra that's of different colour, they are guilty of it? Is it wrong for a human to choose what undergarments they want to buy?

Even that being said, the school have already imposed a rule that all girls, pinafore or baju kurung, MUST wear a camisole. Even with the camisole, the school is still so particular about the bra colour and type (obviously you can't really see the bra already with the camisole)? And why is that? And, the school authorities said the reason behind the rules about bras and camisole are being imposed is because they want to protect girls from being immodest or being looked at (by the boys) in sexual ways because the baju kurung/pinafore are "see-through-able". And my question to the Ministry of Education is that, why did you (allow) or perhaps the marketing in Malaysia, produced such low quality uniforms that are available in the market for students to purchase, yet when we purchase the uniforms, we are being complained because our uniforms "exposed our body". In the first place, if the uniforms weren't "see-through-able" as being accused by various parties, would the students will need to go through the spot checks? Food for thought.

All in all, I considered this part of the spot check as harassment. And must the female students continue to be harassed this way? I don't think so. And thus, I'm speaking up.

People ask me, why the heck am I writing all this rubbish on my blog. Get over with it, they say, because I'm out of high school. I'm writing this because I do not have the opportunity to do so when I'm in high school. I will be "condemned to death" because if the school authorities found out, they will probably issue me a warning letter for defamation. Students are not allowed to write/say anything against their school.

But isn't what all I wrote here are tokens of truth that parents should be aware of? I am concerned over the future of my sibling, the other students who have yet to experienced the bitter taste of high school. Ask any graduated student, what they loved the most in high school and they would tell you that it is the time spent with friends. Not because they have learnt something. Rarely people would say that.

Parents should fight for their children in areas that they don't deserved to be harassed. But sadly, parents nowadays have neglected all this "petty issues" in schools that probably be a factor that shapes out bitterness, anger inside a student.

I do admit, I am angry and bitter against all these thing that I have wrote. But more than that, I'm worried of what school has become of. School should be a place that educates people not just in academic field, but in shaping a person's character to be a useful person in the future, bringing out the best out of a person and not constantly picking on people's mistake to condemn them. School now has become another phase a Malaysian student have to go through with much reluctance and gaining nothing much except making friends.

So am I being a coward because I have not written all these things before this? No, I have wrote about all these issues several times in my own personal rant. I believe in being wise and not putting myself into trouble unnecessarily. Am I writing all these to let out my frustration over the few years in high school? Yes, I am. But I also want parents to be aware of all these things your children have to go through every single day for five days.

Your children are the leaders of the future generation. And what we see in school is corruption, deception and harassment everyday. Do something.

Note : Please bear in mind, I am not defaming my school or any school in particular. This is a pattern that is seen in every other school but I am simply writing about my past experiences and examples that I know of.

High School

It's been a while since I posted my two cents about anything. It's been two months since SPM ended and I've never stepped into the school compound ever since. I have so many reasons to loathe high school and let me share with you some of them.

1) In high school (in this case government school), it is NORMAL for a teacher not to attend his/her class. Well, it is usual that some teachers, particularly male teachers in my case that wouldn't attend his/her classes. Meaning, they are not doing their job yet they are getting monthly pay. What annoys me is that they don't have a valid reason to skip teaching us, making me lagged behind 'cause for some reasons I don't like attending tuition either. And why is that, that the teachers assume that every student now attends tuition? Cause some teachers got the guts to say that "See, even if I don't teach you, you guys are so smart, got attend tuition". Now, I don't take that as a compliment because as a full grown up, teachers are supposed to take up their responsibility to teach and give their best. Not skip class to go smoking or talking with other teachers and eating in the canteen.

2) Teachers get to make racist remarks, openly discriminate other people but get away with it. Clearly, teachers make racist remarks whether intentional or not, in the public ie. assembly and classroom and it's unpleasant for the ears of the listeners. As each school has a group of students who are lacking in studies and also in terms of discipline, discipline teachers tend to publicly condemn the students based on race, whereas actually all races of student is also involved in that "bad category" of students, but because based on population(depending on schools), a certain race would be more than the other thus, the "bad category" would also come from that particular race. Teachers also discriminate students publicly, making judgmental remarks and comments. Take for example what happened to my school, a teacher condemned the Malay girls who didn't wear tudung, saying they are a bad example and sort of like curse them, saying that they won't restu them for graduation and SPM. Such things should never happen, especially in schools where students get education but this is what we see everyday.

3) Student who questions teachers/authorities are seen as rebellious students and rude, whereas it a human right to speak up whenever we want. What about freedom of speech? I have been in this position that I am seen as a rebellious student, for almost 2 years, just because I spoke up. What happened in form 4 (link), made the teachers involved labelled me as a problematic student who is not willing to submit to school rules. But mind you, I've actually submitted myself in a whole lot of matters which I think was not necessary and I can be stubborn if I wanted to but I didn't. And even that, in form 5, during an exam there was an essay for English which I written according to the topic given, "Changes in School". I wrote a few points including some ridiculous stuffs happening to school just to find that my English teacher found out that I was quite "vocal" in writing the issues in the essay that she actually showed my essay to my class teacher. I don't see what's the point of her doing that, was she mocking me or impressed? That, I don't know but I'm sure in some part I probably have offended her because in that essay I was being very sharp and precise in giving the examples that reflects my own school.

4) School has become ridiculous with the many rules imposed on the students. Spot checks has very much evolved throughout the years. Let me elaborate further on this point. I'll share with you the many examples of spot checks that a student has to go through in high school nowadays, I bet those of you who have graduated from high school many years ago wouldn't know this.

a) Prefects use rulers to measure how thick are your spectacles. More than 1 cm, your spectacles will be confiscated.

b) Prefects use 50 cents coin to measure how big is your watch. Bigger than that, your watch will be confiscated.

c) You are not to have a watch with more than 2 colours. More than that, your watch will be confiscated.

d) Your shoes should not have more than 2 lines by the side. More than that, you are required to use a liquid paper to liquid the lines. Should the colour of the lines are other than black, you are required to use a black marker pen to overwrite it.

e) You are not allowed to own a comb in certain schools. If you happen to own one, your comb will be confiscated. And in certain schools, those combs with 'supposedly-claimed' sharp end will be confiscated.

f) Prefects will check if your stockings is above your ankle, if discovered below your ankle, name will be recorded in the "bad book" and disciplinary action will be taken against you soon.

g) Prefects will check if you wear bra according to skin colour or not, if discovered you did not name will be recorded in the "bad book" and disciplinary action will be taken against you soon. The same applies when you wear "other kind of bras" that is not approved by the school, ie string-tied ones etc.

h) Anything that is considered as barangan berfesyen (fasionable items) personally by the discipline teacher himself/herself, will be confiscated. Ie. your school bag, your wallet, your purse, your pencil box, your key chain.

i) All students are not allowed to bring scissors. When it comes to art class, the art teacher complains. In the everyday school life, students cut papers using ruler. LOL. Nice right?

5) Food just sucks in school canteens. And also, there are several times where the canteen workers don't allow students to on the fan. OMG. HOT, you know?!

6) Most teachers tend to have pets but being a professional, they shouldn't be biased and be fair to all. Sadly, humans being humans they play favouristism and it's no nice to the other students that they do not favour.

7) The school authorities make empty promises to students, saying that they will give out certificates and even prizes for certain competition. And yet they failed to carry out whatever they have promised in the first place. Talk about taking responsibilities here.

8) The school want to suck out the maximum amount of money that they can through "compulsory" activities that are carry out yearly. Take for example, carnival day (or whatever you wanna call it la, Hari Keusahawanan or whatever crap). The students are required to fork out a certain amount of money (for my school, RM30) that is included in the so-called school fees as the coupons for carnival day. Compulsory to "purchase". Besides that, for carnival day itself, the students have to fork out another amount of money as the modal to buy ingredients/stuffs and what not, for the food/drinks/entertainment that they are gonna sell on that day. And at the end of the day, if your sales is bad and you didn't gain any profit, you lose money again cause out of the sales, the school takes 70% of the whole sales. You may even lose out in getting back your modal. Nice? There's more. School collect extras "funds" through many other activities like jogathon (asking you to collect a certain amount of money, if you didn't you're gonna be punished in some ways). The school koperasi also made a lot of profit because the school made it compulsory to students to purchase their socks, pants and everything else they could possibly think of. And if you fail to bring your buku peraturan and buku nilam, you are required to purchase a new one on the spot regardless u have it at home or not. Nice, more money for them.

9) You may not see it, but the school systems regardless of which school you attend, are getting corrupted. Because of money and fame. Why did the school implement so many rules and such? Cause they want to be recognized as a good school, so-called excelling in studies and also in other aspects like discipline.

I have many other points, but for now. Let's just leave till here :)

Owl City (Adam Young) sings Enchanted to Taylor Swift with Lyrics

Taylor Swift wrote Enchanted and sang it for Adam Young (Owl City) and he decides to make a cover of that song, take a look at his reply :

"Dearest Taylor,

I'll be the first to admit I'm a rather shy boy and since music is the most eloquent form of communication I can muster, I decided to record something for you -- a sort of a "reply" to the breathtaking song on your current record. This is what I wanted so badly to tell you in person but could never quite put into words:

Everything about you is lovely. You're an immensely charming girl with a beautiful heart and more grace and elegance than I know how to describe. You are a true princess from a dreamy fairy tale, and above all, I just want you to know... I was enchanted to meet you too."

Aww, so cute and sweet of Adam Young :D

Lyrics :

There I was again tonight forcing laughter, faking smiles
Same old tired, lonely place
Walls of insincerity
Shifting eyes and vacancy vanished when I saw your face
All I can say is it was enchanting to meet you

Your eyes whispered "have we met?"
Across the room your silhouette starts to make it's way to me
The playful conversation starts
Counter all your quick remarks like passing notes in secrecy
All I can say is it was enchanting to meet you
Oh Taylor I was so enchanted to meet you too

This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you too

The lingering question kept me up
2AM, who do you love?
I wondered till I'm wide awake
Now I'm pacing back and forth, wishing you were at my door
I'd open up and you would say,
Hey it was enchanting to meet you
Oh Taylor I was so enchanted to meet you too

This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you too

This is me praying that this was the very first page
Not where the story line ends
My thoughts will echo your name until I see you again
These are the words I held back as I was leaving too soon
I was enchanted to meet you too
Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you
Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you

This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
This night is flawless, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone
Taylor I'll spend my whole life wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you too

I was never in love with someone else
I never had somebody waiting on me
'Cause you were all of my dreams come true
And I just wish you knew
Taylor I was so in love with you.

Bruno Mars Live In KL (April 10, 2011)

Just The Way You Are singer Bruno Mars, is coming to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 10th of April and he is set to have a concert at Merdeka Hall, PWTC. :D :D :D Bruno fans, aren't you excited? I've been listening to his mixtape songs and loving them :)

Bruno Mars also done a few live performances to cover Michael Jackson's songs and it's pretty good, not everyone can cover MJ's songs. And mind you, it's LIVE. And nowadays you can probably use your fingers to count how many people that can sing live.

Many people linked him being the next King of Pop, and some hailed him as the Prince of Pop already because MJ's irreplaceable. Bruno Mars have 7 nominations for Grammys in his pocket, even more than Lady Gaga. Hohoho.

Hope to catch his concert :)

Edit : Please head over HERE for updates.

Sam Tsui vs MattyB, 8 year old rapper - Hold It Against Me

Britney Spear's Hold it Against Me had been hitting the charts even since the song was debuted. And people are so efficient nowadays, that many Youtubers have been producing their own version of covers for the song in just days.

There's a little boy, 8 years this year to be specific who rapped the song. Well, I checked out this boy, MattyB's channel and watched some of his videos and I don't really fancy. Hahhaa, I mean I don't find him cute and I don't enjoy rapping -.-'

There's a heated debate between lovers and haters at the comment section but if I were to choose sides I'd go to the haters side. I mean, c'mon he's just 8 years old, he should just be a normal kid. XD To me, he's trying way too hard (as it seems in the video, and also in the lyrics O_O)

Anyhow, Sam Tsui (omg, I love him :D) and Kurt had also come out with their own cover and it's kinda like the slow version. As for Sam & Kurt's video, I tend to be a little biased yeah. Hahahaa. But I guess I really liked how they produced/arranged/played the song. However, I'd still prefer Sam to cover better songs than Hold It Against Me though =/

Well, I'm no music expert, but you can listen to both videos and see what you think about it. :)

Sam & Kurt's

Well, you decide which is better :)
